A Brand New Light

I'm eating as I blog down this entry so please forgive me if I digress and start talking about my yummy food, which is actually rice that I bought back earlier on from kopitiam. Anyway, that is not what I came online to blog about. What I do want to blog about is how I spent my day today and all the fun that I had!

I was talking with Emileen online, earlier in the day when out of the blue, she suggested catching a movie. At first I was reluctant since weekend movie tickets are priced at an exorbitant, $9.50 per ticket! However, I agreed to watch the movie because it's been a decade since I last caught a movie and I don't see another chance coming by in the near future.

I met Emileen for lunch but before we went for lunch, we had to go collect our tickets from the counter since Emileen had booked our tickets online. When we got to the counter, there was a massive, I mean a really really really long queue! Okie, maybe I am exaggerating too much but there was a considerable amount of people in the queue. Later, we learned that the people in the queue was getting a refund since their movie, "Harry Potter goblet of fire" was interrupted halfway due to a fault in the projector or something like that, according to one of the gentleman who was also in the queue.

When we collected our tickets, we proceeded to eat at the food court. According to Emileen, Marina shopping center has under gone a facelift, in other words, it is newly renovated. It's not like I know the difference since I never knew how it looked before the renovations but the shopping center was quite vibrant with all it's smaller side shops.

Oh by the way, we watched "Just Like Heaven". I would give that movie a rating of 3 1/2 popcorns out of 5. There is plenty of laughs in that movie, at least it humored me and definately Emileen since she laughed out loudly most of the time! HAHA. Overall, it's another lovey-dovey show with a minor twist in the end. Sweet!

After the show, which is about 2 hours long, we went to Harvey Norman to look for a nice carpet to match Emileen's new sofa set. However, the carpet that she liked was one which was on display. Those small living room displays as in the coffee table is there, the sofa set is there and so was that carpet that she liked. Unfortunately, that was the last piece and she didn't see one that she liked on the shelves.

I ate oreo cheesecake today! We stopped by at Starbucks cafe to ease off my hunger pangs and we shared an oreo cheesecake. Actually, the oreo cookie taste was minimal but the cake itself was VERY thick and we ended up having to buy a hot cup of coffee to help ease the swallowing of the cheesecake. HAHA. It was nice though!

The one new experiece that I had today was attending a Mask. For those who do not know what a mask is, it is a catholic church service. Emileen invited me to go for a mask since I have been quite curious as to what actually happens at a catholic mask. I went. We went to the catholic church next to C.H.I.J.M.E.S and since we were early, we went to walk aroung in C.H.I.J.M.E.S first. It's really pretty inside! My first time exploring the inside too! There's a really nice court yard filled with greenery and overlooking the open air pub below and the chapel. Beautiful!

At first, I was a little lost in the service because the Father would say a phrase and the congregation would reply to what he said. They already knew what to say so I was just listening and trying to follow what they did. Luckily for me, Emileen was there to teach me what was actually going on. It was a real good experience for me to actually attend a catholic mask.

After mask, Emileen was going to meet her friend so we headed back to Raffles shopping center but apparently, her friend was late and it so happened that there was a live performance of "Batman Begins" in the shopping mall! It was a short performance of acting and dancing. It was rather good and entertaining! We managed to catch the whole performance and she left to meet her friend and I my way home.

What a day! I enjoyed myself! For those who do not know who Emileen is, don't worry. She is well ahead of me, in terms of age and she is already married. HAHA.

Singapore is playing against Vietnam now! GO SINGAPORE!

The Power of the Lord Your God!

I thought I should pen this down since I was really amazed by the awesome-ness of this short, fact findings or rather the awe of the man you call GOD! This was what capt. Ian shared with us. Okie so listen up..

What is the biggest animal? The big blue whale of course. The big blue whale's tail flipper alone can accomodate the size of a whole, fully grown elephant!

And if you thought the big blue whale was big..

If you squeezed many big blue whales into a "jar", it would take millions of those "jars" of big blue whales to amount it up to Mount Everest!

And if you thought that Mount Everest was big..

Mount Everest, is only a tiny spec when compared to the whole earth!

And if you thought that the earth was big..

It would take 10 million earths to fill up the earth's sun alone! 10 MILLION!

And if you thought the earth's sun was big..

It would take 50 million of the earth's suns to fill up Ataris (excuse me if it's the wrong spelling), the biggest star!

And if you thought that Ataris was big..

The biggest star, Ataris is only one of the stars that make up the milky-way!

And if you thought that the milky-way was big..

Thousands of milky-ways form the galaxy!

And if you thought that the galaxy was big..

There are millions and billions of other galaxies in outer space, out there!

TO THINK OF IT, BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF SPACE IN OUTER SPACE IS COMPLETELY VOID!

I don't know about you but this can only be the works and power of the Lord you GOD!

Cool huh?!

It's Big and it's Black!

I don't know what I managed to paint in your mind with that title but what i'm refering to is my new television set! It's not a brand new television but I swapped my previous television set for this one, hence a "new" set. This "new" set is a Goliath compared to the previous one. It is almost as big as the cupboard that it resides on! I used to be able to see the entire screen's picture with the older one but now, I have to literally look around the screen to catch the whole picture.

I will be awaiting the weekly EPL soccer highlights!

Finally, the weekend is here! The first week of school has just passed and that one week felt like a month! It's only the first week of school and I can already feel the pressure of work and stress piling up. School ssignments, online assesments, christmas musical rehearsals, driving practicals and a whole lot more, means I will be having a back to back schedule right up till next year.

S.T.R.E.S.S!

What have I got myself into!?

The First of the Last

First of all, a big shout out to all of Joel's faithful blog readers or blogders as Xiaxue would say. I really have to commend all of you for staying with me even if it meant having to check back and realising that the blog had not been updated. Yes! I am back to blogging again! *loud cheers*

To cut the long story short, my accumulated blog entries for last month was few and far between and the reason for that was because all I did for my month long holiday was to take up driving practical lessons at SSDC (Singapore Safety Driving Center) and that was pretty much all I did throughout the entire month, last month. Therefore, I did not see the purpose of you coming here to read about an entire month's worth of driving blog entries.

Anyway, I decided to start blogging as regularly (I hope) as I can to maintain readership. HAH. I do recall making a hoo-rah about having a fan base for this blog and what not. To see that happening, I suppose I have to BLOG in the first place! It would be like asking you to cheer for a team that does not even exist!

I titled this entry, "The first of the last". An oxymoron to kick of my new semester. Today was the start, the first day of a new semester for me and sadly, it will be my last as a poly student.

I will be graduating from poly in 6 months!

It is proven and tested! Time flys..even when you're not having fun. HAH. Alright, who am I to kid. Poly life has been an outstanding, totally, out of this world, enriching, awesome, incredible, if not life changing experience!

It's funny how I used to think that I would find a girlfriend while I was in poly. Looks like that won't come to past. Anyway, Tammy was asking me why I never had a girlfriend before, while we were having supper with the rest. I always hate it when people ask me that kind of question because a long and weird silence would always follow after that. I don't know why but it happens all the time! For the record, I do not have a girlfriend or ever had a girlfriend. Don't ask me why because even I don't know why. HAH. However, one person knows why and that is God.

I can afford to stay up late tonight because lesson starts at 2pm tomorrow, which also means that it is a long day tomorrow, till 9.30pm at night.

Alright, I intend to kick of this semester with a good start to maintain the 5 A's I managed to sneak into the bag last semester. Well, I can start by doing some of my homework.

Check back soon for more updates! God loves you and so do I.

The Great Feat

I had to blog down my greatest feat concerning walking, ever! I never knew this pair of legs could carry me such a far distance until today. HAH. Today will be the day that I visited the most number of places and sites in and around town in the whole of my 19 years of existence. My awesome feat was not accomplished alone tho but with 2 other friends, Aaron and his sister, Audrey.

Since we are facilitators for the upcoming youth event held on Hari Raya, called "CHIONG AR!", we thought it would be much more helpful if we ourselves knew where the exact locations of the clues were. This event is an Amazing Race cum Extreme Gourmet kind of activity, planned for all the youths in Salvation Army.

Anyway, I can't mention where we went because there will be people who are participating in this event and who also read my blog. All I can say is everytime we entered a shopping center, it felt like heaven since there was a sudden blast of cool air-conditioning, prepare to sweat in the sweltering afternoon heat, you would relise how far your feet can carry you and at the end, it dosn't matter who wins because the satisfaction of finally finishing the race will be a reward in itself! HAH. Trust me.

It was a real eye opener for me since I managed to explore new places which I never even knew existed! However, the soles of my feet are still sore. Well, I will have to walk that distance again on thursday and maybe even more! Since as facilitators, we have to follow a group.

I give all the glory to god for my good grades for the previous semester =P I managed to attain an A grade for my Final Year Project (FYP) and the grade you get for the project is equivalent to 5 grades. Therefore, I achieved 5 A's. Thank you Jesus! HAH.

Sigh. School reopens this coming monday! The final 6 months of poly life to experience before we officially become grown ups. HAHA.

Men in the Entertainment Business

Following the post, which I listed some of the beautiful people in SA, I decided to let you guys in on some of the guys in the entertainment industry whom I admire!

This is Daniel Wu. I liked him best in the movie, "New Police Story". Although, he played a bad guy in the movie, he had a playful vibe. He looked stunningly amazing with his mo-hawk hairdo and bad ass attitude.

Edison Chen. He just looks so good with that school boy look. You can rarely catch this guy smiling in any of his movies but he just lets his looks do the speaking. We all love him.

This guy needs no introduction. We've all seen him on tv dramas, shows and on MTV asia as a vj/dj. Uttsada Pinakul is a Thai who spent most of his younger days in the States. He really looks way younger than his actual age but we all can agree that he is one heart throbber.

This is Won Bin. He is a korean actor and has many successful movies under his belt. I first got to know through the korean war movie, "Taeguki" or brotherhood. I thought he was brilliant and the show was touching. He too, acted in the recent movie, "My Brother". Somehow, he always has a somewhat bad guy influence or attitude in his movies. He looks good when he is angry. HAH.

These are the 4 guys whom I like in the entertainment industry so far. Of course there are more but I can't think of their names off hand. HAH.

I'll be driving all week long!

Beaus and Belles of SA

I just came home from a short but strenuous physio session at the Alexandra hospital. I think my injured right leg has recuperated and gained back much of it's strength. However, it's still pretty weak since I have been depending on my left leg more since the injury. Although, I am right legged, my left leg is stronger!? I can lift 120kg weights with my left leg alone but I can only lift about 70kg, 80kg max with my right. Slowly but surely, i'm healing.

I'm feeling really tired now, eye bags are heavy and puffy and the bed seems rather inviting but I shall squeeze in this entry before I catch a short nap.

Okie, I know this might sound pretty weird and out of point but I was just thinking who the beaus and belles of Salvation Army were and since I somewhat know most of the youths in all of the Salvation Amry churches here in Singapore, I shall attempt to list out the few people whom I think are pretty pretty and pretty handsome. HAH. I know alot of you people have been eargerly anticipating who I thought was attractive to me. Unfortunately, I only listed thress names for each category so do not be dismayed if your lovely name was not listed because it would be if I had listed 5 names. I love you all!

Anyway, In no proper order, here are those from Salvation Army Central Corps. The critic's pick (i'm the only critic here of course. HAHA.) *drum roll*

Central Corps Guys (present) currently worshipping in in church.

Jeremy
Gerome
Kendrick

Central Corps Guys (past) meaning not in church any longer due to army or other commitments.
Genesis
Dave
Johnathan

Central Coprs Girls (present)
Della
Alicia
Rui Jun

Central Corps Girls (past)
Ada
Wei Ting
Jasmine

Salvation Army Guys (as a whole)
Shannon
Jeremy
Joshua

Salvation Army Girls (as a whole)
Issa
Della
Amanda

These are the names I have locked in. Until I get to know and meet new people from other churches from the Salvation Army, this is my list of beaus and belles. =)

I know it must be a bore for those readers who are not part of the Salvation Army network. Hey! Join us now and you will  experience a whole new family!

but wait..theres more!

If you join within the next 30 days, we will give you a great friend, Jesus, someone you can talk to whenever you want to, whatever the issue and wherever you are! AMAZING and ABSOLUTELY FREE!

I shall take a short nap after which, I shall go cut my hair. =P

Calendar of Events

God knows how long I have not been blogging! HAH. Anyway, just for the record, i'm still alive and well although I think i've caught the flu bug. Darn stuffed up nose when I sleep, leaky and a tingling sore troat in the daytime. I hope that clears up fast since I can't get good sleep with just one nostril to breath with!

Since you guys are such eager beavers to know what i've been up to lately, I will list down all the important and not so important, eventful and the not so eventful, happening and the not so happening things (which sums up to EVERYTHING la), that I missed blogging for the past 2 weeks or so.

I shall start with the latest event (yesterday) and go back, further into the past from there.

October 17 2005, Monday
I had my second driving practical lesson today. In light that this is only my second lesson, I thought I did pretty well with the gear shifting coordination. It went smoothly and the car did not stall on me. I think i'm more confident of driving now. Although, it was only driving around the circut, first, going the left direction then the other, stopping for pedestrains (thank God I didn't run over any. HAH), stopping at the red lights, signalling and changing lanes. I also mastered the art of coming to a gradual halt.

Wednesday, I go out to the road! Refrain from driving around the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio from 10:30am - 12:15pm. HAH! Kidding. I'm not that bad a driver okie! It's just that it's only my third lesson and my first time driving on the freaking road with cars! So there might be a few hic-ups here and there.

I went for my army medical check-up at CMPB (Central Manpower Base). I went through all the stations where they did several tests and what not. I was classified under Pes A for 2 test but I am confirmed and graded provisionally as Pes B since of my partial colour blindness. HAH.

I still hope the officer post is still open to me. =P

October 16 2005, Sunday
A big congradulations to my cousin Janice for getting wed. We went for the wedding dinner at Hilton hotel. I saw Herman there too, not as an invited guest but as one of the waiters. He must be a higher ranking waiter since he wore a name tag. HAH. Anyway, three times, the waiters and waitresses dropped glassware on the floor! You know the sound of shattering glass as it hits the floor.

[pee-ee-iang] shrieking sound. Three times!

During the course of the dinner, my sister and I were planning our own wedding dinners and how they would turn out to be like. My sister said that I had to be the host of her wedding dinner, the entertainment of the dinner more like it. HAH.

Since there were 4 empty seats at our table because one of my uncle and his family could not turn up for the dinner, 2 other couples came to sit at our table. Later, we found out that 1 of the guys was the bridegroom's brother, his wife and his friends. We met them for the first time.

The funny thing was, they kept calling me Wang Lee Hom. It was embarrassing for me since I know I don't look like him but they kept calling me by that name. It was nice of them nevertheless. They made me drink with them, first, at the table where I drank a sip of red wine. It was weird since my parents were there but since it was a wedding, I accepted the toast.

When the bridegroom's father came to our table to introduce himself and for a chat, he said that I looked korean and my sister looked japanese. What the..

While we were about to leave, the four of them were sitting on the lounge chairs outside and the bridegroom's brother called out, "Wang Lee Hom! Come come, come here" I was reluctant at first since I knew he was going to make me drink somemore but my mum told me to go over, so I did. Indeed he toasted again and he said I had to drink that amount of tiger beer. It felt weird drinking in front of 4 people I barely know and them looking at me!

October 15 2005, Saturday
Oh my God! SHOPPING SPREE! I went to town with my sister to do some shopping. It's true what she told me. She said that everytime we went out together, we would end up spending alot of money! I seldom spend money but when I do, it's like *boom!* HAH! I bought a very nice brown jacket from Samuel and Kelvin. It's not so formal yet stylish in itself and there was a 20% student discount. =) I also bought a pair of aviator shades. Awesome! I also decided to buy my sister's birthday present since it's her birthday month and I bought her a pair of (correct my spelling) haviayannas? It's the high class slippers they sell at New Urban Male or some may know it as NUM. She chose a white pair with pink hawaiian flower prints. Quite cute!

As for my sister, I can't even remember what she bought! Too many things. All I remember was my arm aching from the weight of carrying all her bags! My goodness.

There were other stuff that cropped up during the week but I shall not go on, in fear that you might break into a fit and die of boredom. HAH.

As for now, I have to come up with a database for worship songs since I was asked to help out with this project for the youth group and I have been appointed to create "get well soon" cards and birthday cards for my "fellowship" committee. Busy.
